Potential Health Risk (Sick Child) Policy
Parents/guardians are required to keep their child/children at home and will be contacted immediately if their child/children are showing any of the following signs or symptoms:
-
Fever over 100 degrees Fahrenheit or 37.7 degrees Celcius
-
Vomiting
-
Diarrhea (loose watery bowl movements)
-
New or unexplained rash or cough
-
Children requiring greater care and attention that can be provided without compromising the care of the other children in the program
-
Having or displaying any other illness or symptom the staff member knows or believes may indicate that the child poses a health risk to persons on the program premises
Little Sprouts Child Care Centre will assess if a child is ill when they arrive at the centre by observing the child. If the child is showing any of the symptoms listed above, the parent will be contacted and must arrange for the immediate removal of the child from the program premises. If a child is removed from the program because they were ill, the child will not be able to return until they are symptom free for 24 hours or parent has a physician’s note. The centre will record and document children who are ill including the name of the child, date the child was observed to be ill, name of staff member who identified the child was ill, time the parent was initially contacted, name of staff person who contacted parent, time the child was removed from the program and the date the child returned to the program by documenting it on the Potential Health Risk Form. If the parent fails to arrange for the immediate removal of their child, the emergency contact person will be contacted to arrange for immediate pick up. Parents will be informed of this policy upon registration. If the child is healthy enough to attend the child care centre, they are healthy enough to participate in daily activities.
This policy can be found on page 28-29 of the Parent Handbook.
